appoint Districts for the purposes of the said Act, being Districts over which the Native Title shall not for the time being have been extinguished, Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of his Executive Council, doth hereby order, appoint, and declare that the Territory hereinafter described shall be a District for the purposes of the said Act, that is to say : All Territory bounded towards the North by the Manawatu District, as constituted by Order in Council of even date herewith, towards the East by the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges, towards the West by the Coast line between the Kukutauaki stream and Pipinui Point, and towards the South-east by a line from Pipinui Point to the Rimutaka Range, including the Island of Mana : excepting all lands over which the Native Title has been extinguished within the meaning of the said Act. Aud doth appoint and declare that the said District shall be called the Native District of " Porirua." And doth declare that this Order shall take effect from and after the first day of March, 1863. No. 10. OKDER IN COUNCIL TO PROHIBIT THE WANDERING AT LARGE OF CATTLE IN THE TAUPARI AND KOHEKOHE HUNDRED, LOWER WAIKATO G. Geey, Governor. At the Government House at Auckland, the 7th day of July, 18G.3. Present :— His Excellency the Qanssos n> Council. Whereas by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled " The Native Districts Regulation Act, 1858," it is provided that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time to appoint Districts for the purposes of the said Act, being Districts over which the Native Title shall not for the time being have been extinguished : And by the same Act it is provided that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council from time to time to make and put in force within any such District, Regulations (among other things) for the prevention of Cattle-trespass and of the wandering of Cattle at large, and for defining and prescribing the rights, duties, and liabilities in relation to damage done by Cattle-trespass and otherwise in relation thereto of all owners or occupiers of land, persons owning or having charge of cattle and other persons, and that any such Regulations shall be made, as far as possible, with the general assent of the Native population affected thereby, to be ascertained in such manner as the Governor may deem fitting : And whereas the Native Lands in the Hundreds of Taupari and Kohekohe have become infested with Cattle wandering at large to the great injury of agriculture and to the peril of all travellers through the said lands : and whereas it is expedient to make and put in force within the said Hundreds the following Regulations, and the general assent thereto of the Native population has been ascertained to the satis° faction of the Governor : Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of his Executive Council, doth hereby make and put in force within the said Hundreds of Taupari and Kohekohe the following regulations—that is to say, 1. No person shall have any right of ownership in unbranded cattle more than one year old wandering at large over Native lands. 2. No person shall have any right of ownership in wild or dangerous cattle which shall have been wandering at large over Native lands for more than one year. Forster Goring, Clerk of Executive Council.
