Enclosure 1 in No. 71. Copt. Le deuxieine convoi de deportes au nombre de 680 a quitte la rade de Brest le 13 Juin a une heure de l'apres-midi, sur la fregate la Querriere. La veille dv depart, le Prefet Maritime de Brest a fait connaitro au Ministre de la Marine que la Commission de visite avait trouve le batiment dans de tres-bonnes conditions pour entreprendre cette navigation lointaine et qu'il n'a etc presente aucune reclamation dont on ait eu a, tenir compte.
Enclosure 2 in No. 71. Extjiact from la Patrie. On nous ecrib de Toulon le 21 que le depart pour la Nouvelle-Caledonie do la fregate la Yirginie a eu lieu la veille, conformement aux ordres dv Ministre de la Marine. Cc convoi de deportes se compose de 210 personnes, au nombre desquelles se trouvent 28 petroleuses condamnees pour crime d'incendie et d'assassinat. Le Contre Admiral Major General, assiste de la Commission sanitaire, a passe la revue dcs condamnes, gui n'ont fait aucune observation et n'ont adressee a l'autorite Maritime aucune plainte. Independaminent dcs deportes, la Yirginie a pris a, son bord dcs dotachements d'infanterie de marine, dcs passagers civil et da materiel pour nos differents etablissements de l'Oeeanie. Parmi ces derniers se trouvent M. Buisson, nomine Commissaire Central de Police en residence a, Noumea ; M. G-autier, Directeur de l'lmprimerie dv Gouvernement, dcs magistrates, dcs medecins et dcs soeurs do Saint Joseph pour l'hopital qu'on va ctablir a la presqu'ile Ducos. II ne reste plus aujourd'hui qu'un seul navire a destination de Noumea ; e'est le transport a vapeur la Garonne, mouillo sur rade a Brest. On assure que son depart est fixe au 30 de cc mois.
No. 72. Copy of a DESPATCH from the Right Hon. the Earl of Kimbeeley to Governor Sir G. E.^Bowen, G.C.M.Gh Sib,— Downing Street, 23rd July, 1872. I have laid before Mr, Secretary Cardwell your Despatch No. 24, of the Ist March last, enclosing a return of the names of the officers of the local forces of New Zealand, whom you proposed should be inserted in the Army List. I have now the honor to transmit to you a copy of a letter from the War Office, pointing out that the names of the officers of the Armed Constabulary cannot be published in the Army List; and that as it appears, on reference to the Admiralty, that there will be no objection to the publication in the Navy List of the names of the officers of the New Zealand Naval Brigade, upon the requisite information being furnished to the Admiralty, the Secretary of State for the War Department does not consider it desirable to insert the names of these naval officers in the Army List. Enclosure in No. 72. The Marquis of Lansdowne to the Under Secretaet of State, Colonial Office. Sib,— War Office, 12th July, 1872. With reference to your letter of 23rd May last, giving cover to a list of officers of Militia and Volunteers of New Zealand, for insertion in the Army List, I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that the names of the officers of the Armed Constabulary cannot be published in the Army List; and as it appears, on reference to the Admiralty, that there will Le no objection to the publication in the Navy List of the names of the officers of the New South Wales Naval Brigade, and of the New Zealand Naval Volunteers, upon the requisite information being furnished to the Admiralty by the Colonial authorities, Mr. Cardwell does not consider it desirable to insert the names of these naval officers in the Army List.
