Adverting to your letter, dated 29th April last, I have the honor to inform you that, after consideration, the Government do not think that tlie circumstances of the special matter referred to therein are such as to require their interference. No. 17. Mr. J. B. Russell to the Hon. the Colonial Seceetaey. g IE Auckland, Bth June, 1872. In the early part of last month, the Hon. J. Vogel assured me my complaint against Thomas Beckham, Esq., Resident Magistrate, should have prompt attention; as yet I have had no evidence that the promise will be carried out. May I request the favour of an intimation of what the Government intend to do, as seven months appear to me a long time to arrive at a conclusion respecting the charge I made against a Judge.
