Extract. —Soldier's Account Book, 1858, page 7. When a soldier, enlisted subsequently to Ist March, 1833, obtains a free discharge at his own request, with permission to settle in any of Her Majesty's Colonies, under instructions issued by the Secretary of State, he may be allowed, by the Secretary-at-War, a gratuity according to the following scale, to be paid to him only in the Colony in whkh he proposes to settle, and in such manner, and at such times, within eighteen months after his arrival, as shall be deemed best for his "interests by the General Officer in Command of the station, or by the Governor of the Colony, after service in the : —
