This will satisfy the quantity due to them. A gift to claimant. Although the names of Teone Topi Patuki and Paitu do not appear in the original census, it was considered they had an indisputable right to share in the reserve as chiefs of the tribe. Moreover, they had been admitted by common consent, and a certain area apportioned them in the division made by the resident Natives. The quantity of land held by them under that arrangement proved, on actual survey, to be 39a. 3r. 37p., only about 30 acres of which could be utilized, the remainder being bare sandhills and waste lands. In consideration of their position in the tribe, in conjunction with other circumstances, they were finally allotted two shares each in the present apportionment.
