1878. NEW ZEALAND.

REPORT OF THE REGISTRAR-GENERAL OF LAND, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30TH JUNE, 1878.

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency. The Registrar-General of Land to the Hon. the Minister of Justice. Office of Eegistrar-General of Land, Wellington, Sir,— 20th August, 1878. I have the honor herewith to transmit statement and returns showing the working of the Land Transfer and Deeds Registry Departments for the year ending 30th June, 1878. Land Transfer. The receipts, exclusive of Assurance Fund, have been £IG,SIO, as against £13,652 for the preceding year. The expenditure, exclusive of £1,938 charged against Survey Department for salaries of draftsmen, &c, has been £9,000. I append returns (A) of the business transacted under the Land Transfer Act during the year 1877-78; (B) of fees received during same period; (C) of mortgages and discharges of mortgages during same period, and of the total amounts remaining secured on mortgage under said Act on 30th June last. The amount standing to the credit of the Assurance Fund on 30th June last was £14,654. Beeds Registry. The receipts for the year ending 30th June, 1878, have been £17,071, as against £16,485 for the preceding year. The expenditure has been £9,962. I have, &c, Geo. B.
