The petitioners state that they have been deprived of lands in the Poverty Bay District, which they have never sold, ceded, or forfeited by rebellion, and pray for relief. I am directed to report that the Committee regret that the time at their disposal has not been sufficient to enable them to make such inquiries as would justify them iv reporting an opinion on the subject-matter of this petition. 26th October, 1878.

They pray that a Judge of tho Supreme Court may be sent to them for that purpose. The petitioners, who are Natives of the Thames District, state that they have always been loyal to Her Majesty, but that nevertheless land of theirs, called Wairotoroto, has been confiscated. They pray that the land may be returned to them.
