No. 50, Session ll.—Petition of Daniel P. Buckley. The petitioner alleges that he has not received a grant of land equal to that which his military service entitled him to. I am directed to report that, from the evidence of the Crown Lands Commissioner of Auckland, it appears the petitioner received all tho land to which he was entitled. The Committee consider that he has no further claim to compensation. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 59, Session I. —Petition of Thomas Colvill. The petitioner prays for a grant of land, which he states he was promised, under the provisions of tho Waste Lands Act of the Province of Auckland. I am directed to report that there has been no evidence submitted to the Committee to show that the petitioner has any valid claim against the colony for land. The Committee cannot recommend his claim to the favourable consideration of the House. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 8, Session I.—Petition of Alexander McGregor and Other Shipowners. The petitioners pray for a change in the pilotage laws, light dues, and charges on coasting vessels in the colony, and foreign vessels on the coast, and notices of departure. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration, with the view of remedying any special and exceptional taxation or disabilities imposed on the petitioners. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 42, Session ll. —Petition of John Munro. The petitioner prays that he may be granted 180 acres of land in lieu of certain land orders which have reverted to the Crown. I am directed to report that it appears from the petitioner's own statement that he has been allowed to select land and subsequently abandoned it to the Crown. The Committee cannot therefore recommend his claim to the favourable consideration of the House. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 46, Session ll.—Petition of George Darroch. The petitioner prays for a grant of land for himself and a large family, on the ground of being a long resident in the colony. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petitioner has no claim for a free grant of land, and cannot recommend his claim to the favourable consideration of the House. 23rd October, 1579.
No. 143, Session L, and No. 32, Session ll.—Petitions of Henry Corbett. The petitioner complains of ill-treatment at the hands of the police at Napier, and of injustice done to him iv the Police Court in Wellington. I am directed to report that the Committee, having inquired into the case of the petitioner, has no recommendation to make to the House. 23rd October, 1879.
Nos. 68 and 69, Session ll.—Petitions of Thomas Macdonald and Others of Invercargill, and of the School Committee, Karere. The petitioners pray that the reading of the Bible may be practised in the State schools established under the Education Act. I am directed to report that, the subject-matter of theso petitions being one of public policy, the Committee does not deem it necessary to offer any opinion to the House. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 43, Session II.—Petition of Patrick Gorman and Others. TnE petitioners pray for a reduction in the scale of licensed victuallers' fees in the Province of Auckland. I am directed to report that, the subject-matter of this petitiou being now before the House, the Committee does not deem it necessary to make any recommendation. 23rd October, 1879.
No. 73, Session ll.—Wi Parata Kakakura and Others. The petitioners call attention to the unsatisfactory state of the business now before the House and express a hope that the members will unite in disposing of public business. I am directed to report that the Committee has no opinion to offer on the subject-matter of this petition. 23rd October, 1879.
