These contests would create a good deal of useful emulation. Table op Results. —Although in this report the work of each school is not set forth in detail, the following tables show the status of each. The number returned in each standard includes all in tho school, old and new passes —children who failed to pass a higher standard and absentees being credited with their last classification. All absentees not previously classed are returned as below Standard I.

Wellington City Schools.

* New schools opened in temporary buildings at the time of inspection. The new building at Newtown has since been opened, and there are now 300 children on the books.

District-Town Schools.
