Rawiri Tewatawharangi. Memo.— These children are objected to by the Ngatitoa- as successors to Eraia te Hangi, owing to their mother being a Ngatimaniapoto by the half-blood, and the children being the issue of a Ngatimaniapoto husband, which removes their relationship to the tribe into the third degree. Irrespective of this, however, they are the nearest of kin to Eraia, in preference to Rawiri Tewatawharangi, who is a first cousin o.nce removed on the Ngatitoa side. (Signed) A. Mackay. C. Heaphy.
