APPLICATIONS TO GAZETTE MAIN ROADS.

Report showing what Applications have been made to the Minister for Public Works, under the provisions of "The Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882," to gazette Main Roads on the 31st March, 1883, in terms of Section 7, and showing which have been gazetted and which have not been gazetted. Bay of Islands County Council: Kawakawa to Okehau, and on to Waihou through, Wakanekeneke Valley. Remarks. —The Surveyor-General having reported this as already included in the schedule of main roads under the Act, the request has not been complied with. Bruce County Council : 1. Milton to Hull, through Tokomairiro, Ekatore, Clarendon, and Coast Survey Districts. 2. From above road at Section 10, Block VII., Akatore Survey District, through Akatore Survey District, to mouth of Tokomairiro River. 3. From Waihola Township, through Clarendon Survey District, to junction with road, Milton to Hull. 4. From Milton to boundary of county, through Tokomairiro, Table Hill, and Waipori Survey Districts. 5. From Clarendon Railway Station to Main South Eoad. 6. From Milton to Bruce Company's Coal-pit. 6a. From Milburn Eailway Station to Main South Eoad. 7. From Main South Eoad at Section 1, Block XXXIL, Tokomairiro Survey District, to boundary of Crichton Eoad District at Section 22, Block 11., Kaitangata Survey District. 8. From Lovell's Flat Eailway Station, via Mount Stuart Trig. Station, through Tuakitoto, Hillend, and Waitahuna Survey Districts. 9. From Main South Eoad at Trig. D, Block 1., Hillend to Dalhousie, via Hillend and Waitahuna West Survey Districts. 10. From Clydevale Punt to boundary of county at Trig. G. 11. From Dalhousie to junction of road from Clydevale Punt, through Waitahuna West Survey District. 12. Water Street and Davidson Street, Kaitangata, Remarks. —The Surveyor-General having certified these as main roads, they were gazetted on the 29th March, 1883. Clutha County Council: Clinton, via Hillfoot, to Puerua Church. Waipahi to Gore, via Arthurtown and Pukerau, part. Kelso to Pukerau. Remarks. —The Surveyor-General having certified these as main roads, they were gazetted on the 31st March, 1883. Grey County Council: 1. Ahaura to Orwell Creek. 2. Nelson Creek to Hatters. 3. Greenstone Junction, via Lake Brunner, to Teremakau. 4. Greymouth, via Paroa, to Maori Creek. Remarks. —The Surveyor-General having certified that Eoad No. 2 is already included in the schedule, and that No. 4is not considered a main road, these have not been gazetted; but Nos. 1 and 3, having been certified to be main roads, were gazetted on the 29th March last. Kaikoura County Council: 1. Wharf to Inland Clarence River. 2. Lyell Bridge to Hapuka. 3. Lyell Bridge to Boat Harbour. Remarks. —The Surveyor-General having certified the first road to be a main road, it was gazetted on the 29th March last; but Nos. 2 and 3 were not gazetted, as it is certified they are already included in the schedule under the Act. Manawatu Highway Board: Three miles, uniting north-east boundary of Fitzherbert Block with main trunk road through Manawatu Gorge. Remarks. —This Eoad Board has no power under the Act to apply. Bee application by Manawatu County. Manawatu County : 1. Cheltenham Cross-road. 2. North-east boundary Fitzherbert Block to Manawatu Gorge. 3. Foxton to Elkins Corner, Motoa; thence to Section 98, Motoa Block. Remarks. —The .Surveyor-General having certified that the above are main roads, they were gazetted on the 29th March last.
