Table E shows the number of committed and non-committed children belonging to the industrial schools and orphanages in 1884 who are maintained wholly or in part by the Government, and furnishes a variety of information concerning them: —

The committed children belonging to industrial schools may be separated into two classes —(1) those who are maintained at the public cost, and (2) those who have ceased to be chargeable to the colony.
