tion of those who arc sufficiently intelligent, and who take sufficient trouble, to acquaint themselves with the facts, but harassed by the noisy hostility, the cavillings, and the misrepresentations of others. I regret that I have been obliged to express dissent from some of the suggestions of the examiners. I should regret it still more should I, in the haste of writing, have given ground for the supposition that I have failed to appreciate the generous tone of the report. But 1 claim the fullest right to express such dissent on questions in the decision of which knowledge of schools and school methods and practical experience are of weight. As to the suggestion about the organization of the mathematical department, I may say that the experience and the opinion of the senior mathematical master confirm my own. I also regret my inability to send in these remarks at an earlier date, and the marks of hasts which they bear, both in their form and in their substance. The period which has elapsed since the last meeting of the Board has been one of incessant work in the interests of the school. 13th February, 1886. C. F. Bouene, Headmaster.
