MEN EMPLOYED UPON RELIEF-WORKS (RETURN SHOWING NUMBER OF).
Return to an Order of the Souse of Representatives dated 23rd July, 1889. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing (1) the number of men at, present, and the number who have been at the end of eaeli month, employed upon relief-works in the colony during the period commencing with the 31st March, 1888, and terminating with the 31st May, 1889 ; (2) the districts in which such men have been and are at present employed; (3) the character of the work upon which they have been engaged; (4) the terms upon which they are employed in each district, whether piecework or otherwise ; (5) the amount of money expended in each provincial district for the aforesaid object."—(Mr. Goldie.)
