Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 15th August, 1890. Ordered, "That a return bo laid before this House showing the cost of tho Native Land Courts and the receipts from all sources connected with them, including Native duty, fees, &c, for the last year, and, if possible, the receipts from ordinary stamp duty on deeds of sale or lease of Native land."—(Mr. Armiun.)

Memorandum for Under-Secretary, Native Department. Stamp Department (Head Office), Wellington, 26th August, 1890. In reply to your memorandum of the 22nd instant, I regret to say that the receipts from ordinary stamp duty on deeds of sale or lease of Native land are not kept distinct from ordinary receipts on account of European deeds. It will be impossible for me to furnish you with the information you require to complete the return you are preparing in compliance with an order of the House of Representatives on the motion of Mr. Arthur. 0.
