Enclosure. Admiralty to Colonial Office. Sib,— Admiralty, 12th May, 1890. With reference to your letter of the 6th instant, forwarding copy of a despatch from the Governor of New Zealand, with its enclosures, respecting the natural advantages of Point Elizabeth, near Greymouth, as a coaling-station and harbour, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request that you will state to Lord Knutsford that the plan forwarded shows that a harbour could be made by artificial works, but until this is accomplished my Lords are of opinion that it would be premature to consider its suitability as a coaling-station. I have, &c, The Under-Secretary of State, Colonial Office. Evan Macgeegob.
