No. 628, 1891, Sess. ll.—Petition of Wieemu Kingi Matakatea and 2 Others. Petitionees pray that their burial ground (5 acres), which is included in a block of land called Ngatikahumate, leased by the Public Trustee, may be returned to them without restrictions. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government. 21st September, 1891.

I am directed to report that the Committee are of opinion that the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration and further inquiry. 21st September, 1891.

Nos. 610, 672, and 675, 1891, Sess. ll.—Petitions of Hone Waaka and Others, Mate Nga Taua and 31 Others (Nos. 1 and 2). Petitionees pray that they may be relieved from taxation. I am directed to report that, as under the existing laws Natives are exempted from paying rates, the Committee has no recommendation to make in connection with these petitions. 21st September, 1891.

No. 691, 1891, Sess. II. —Petition of Wi Mahui Mataitaua and Others. Petitionejrs allege that their land, called Aorangi No. 3 G., has been wrongfully awarded to Hoani Meihana. They pray that a fresh investigation may be made into the matter, and their lands restored to them. I am directed to report that, as this seems to be a case of great hardship, the Committee recommends that the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and, as there are proceedings in connection with the land in question coming before the Native Land Court at a very early date, action should be taken without delay. 22nd September, 1891. ■

No. 705, 1891, Sess. ll.—Petition of Nikoeima Tb Haukga. Petitioner prays that a rehearing may be granted in connection with the share of the late Tamara Teretiu in the blocks of land called Maukuku 7d. and Te Takapau No. 1. I am directed to report that, as the Committee understands that the matter has been decided by the Native Land Court, they have no recommendation to make. 22nd September, 1891.
