The Senate has also carried into effect its resolution of 1891 by establishing a complete curriculum in all branches of engineering and technical science. Facilities for pursuing this course are amply provided in one of the affiliated colleges of the University, and it is understood that a large number of students are either now engaged, or are preparing to be engaged, in the engineering classes. His Excellency will therefore perceive that the Senate has endeavoured, as far as possible, to bring the University system closely in touch with the admitted necessities of the time for technical instruction and study. The Senate, in its annual report for 1891, mentioned its acceptance of the offer made by Her Majesty's Commissioners for the Exhibition of 1851 of a science scholarship of £150 for New Zealand. At the examination of the current year a candidate was recommended by the examiners for this scholarship, and his name has been forwarded by the Chancellor to the Commissioners in England : the final definite information of the award of the scholarship has, however, not yet been received in the colony. 4th May, 1892. James Hectoe, Chancellor.
