No. 262.-—Petition of T. H. Smith. Petitionee prays that an additional sum of £50 may be paid to him as interest on money which he states was wrongfully withheld in connection with disputed land-purchase in the Maketu District. I have the honour to report that the Committee find, on going through the papers in connection with this case, that the petitioner was paid £100 in full satisfaction of all his claims. Petitionees pray that consideration may be given to their grievances in connection with the reserves of " tenths " in the Otakou, Ngaitahu, and Murihiku Blocks in the South Island. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 18th August, 1893. No. 340.—Petition of John Topi Patuki and H. K. Taiaboa. Petitionees allege that they have been put to considerable expense from time to time in advocating successfully the claims of the South Island Natives, and that they have never received any recompense. They now pray that some relief may be granted. No. 338.' —Petition of Tβ Whitd Ahuakatoa. Petitioned lays claim to certain land in the Waikaaka-o-Te-Bere Block, and prays that the same may be restored to him.
