The Native Land Laws Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to whom was referred the abovementioned Bill, have duly considered the same, and are of opinion that it should be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 11th October, 1895.

No. 195.—Petition of Ahueei Hikaibo and 5 Others. Petitioners pray that a rehearing may be granted in connection with Pirongia West No. 1. They allege that, through a breach of trust on the part of those appointed to hand in the lists to the Native Land Court, persons received shares in the block who were not entitled to them. I have the honour to report that the Committee are of opinion that the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court should hold an inquiry regarding the injustice which appears to have been done to the petitioners. 16th October, 1895.

No. 272. —Petition of Te Eangihuatau. Petitioner prays for a rehearing (the third) regarding the ownership of Whakaniwha, part of Putiki Wharanui Eeserve, near Wanganui. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 16th October, 1895.

No. 304.—Petition of Eenata Koboa and 4 Others. Petitionees allege that the Tapakohe Block was wrongfully taken from them by the Government; they pray that it may be returned to them. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with reference to this petition. 16th October, 1895.

No. 358. —Petition of Hoani Ebueti and Another. Petitionees pray that they may be appointed caretakers of the Island of Hotunui, near Stewart Island, and have the sole right to take mutton-birds therefrom. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that this petition be referred to the Government. 16th October, 1895.
