No. 449. —Petition of Eemana Nutana. Petitionee, who petitions on behalf of Pouwharetoi anQ-his brothers, the descendents of Toi, prays that they may be put in possession of lands set aside for them by Sir Donald McLean in 1873, or that other relief may be granted. I have the honour to report that, as it appears two of the descendants of Toi—viz., Ngawhare Toi and Ngahina Toi—are without land, the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for inquiry. 17th October, 1895.

No. 464. —Petition of Neville Nicholson. Petitioner prays that land in Horowhenua (No. 9) set apart for him and his relatives by arrangement with Sir Donald McLean in 1874, and since awarded to others, may be returned to them. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that this petition should be referred to the Government with a view to relief being granted to the petitioner. 17th October, 1895.

No. 484. —Petition of Te Whenuanui and 145 Others. Petitioners pray that the Betterments Bill may not apply to Native lands. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that this petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 17th October, 1895.

Westland and Nelson Native Eesebves Act Amendment Bill. The Native Affairs Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, have duly considered the same and recommend that it be allowed to proceed subject to the amendments as shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 18th October, 1895.
