SINKING FUNDS.

BEPOBT AND ACCOUNTS OF THE COMMISSIONERS OP THE PUBLIC DEBTS SINKING FUNDS FOB THE YEAB ENDED 31st MARCH, 1898.

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly in compliance with the 6th Section of " The Public Debts Sinking Funds Act, 1868."

EBPOET. Government Buildings, Wellington, 26th May, 1898. The Commissioners of the Public Debts Sinking Funds have the honour to lay before Parliament the account of their transactions for the year ended on the 31st March last. The debentures to the amount of £4,500 which were issued under " The Lyttelton and Christchurch Eailway Loan Ordinance, 1860," and became due on the Ist January, 1897, and which, as indicated in the Commissioners' report on the accounts for the financial year ended on the 31st March, 1897, had not been presented for payment up to the close of that year, have since been paid off, and the whole of the relative sinking funds, amounting to £14,071 3s. 4d., released and handed to the Treasury. With this exception there is nothing in the appended accounts of the transactions of the year just closed to call for any special mention. J. K. Waebueton, Chairman.
