A large new Hospital is being built, in spite of my remonstrances, on the old site, which is low-lying, only one acre and a tenth in size, and close up in the angle between two streets. The local authorities will by-and-by be sorry that they did not secure a more suitable site for this institution. As regards the management, and especially the nursing, I have nothing but commendation.

This Hospital now has a resident Medical Officer; Dr. Gabites had taken up office shortly before my visit. In the attractive grounds and within the building the careful supervision of Major Jowsey was in evidence. The bathrooms and lavatories at Timaru are models. The institution deserves the public confidence in every respect.
