contemplated by the payments now made under subsection two of section eight of the said Act, the said amount not exceeding on the whole a sum equal to a capitation of four pounds per annum for each child in average daily attendance. And generally by all lawful means to take such evidence and make such inquiry in the premises as you shall think expedient for the purposes aforesaid. And, further, I do hereby appoint the said Alexander Wilson Hogg to be the Chairman of this Commission. And I do hereby, and with the advice and consent aforesaid, require you, within forty days after the date of this Commission, or as much sooner as the same can conveniently be done (using all diligence), to certify to me under your hand and seal your several proceedings and your opinion touching the premises. And, with the like advice and consent, I do hereby declare that this Commission shall continue in full force and virtue, and that you, the said Commissioners, shall and may from time to time proceed in the execution thereof at such place or places and at such times as you shall judge convenient, and although the same be not continued from time to time by adjournment. And, lastly, I do hereby declare that this Commission is and is intended to be issued subject to the provisions of " The Commissioners' Powers Act, 1867," and " The Commissioners' Powers Act Amendment Act, 1872." Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly ; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His (1.5.) Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this ninth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and one.
