1901. NEW ZEALAND.

CENSUS OF NEW ZEALAND, MARCH, 1901.

Registrar-General's Office, Wellington, 10th July, 1901. The total population of the colony (exclusive of Maoris), according to the census of the 31st March last, is shown in the first of the tables presented herewith. The figures are the result of the compilation in this office, and can be considered as finally fixed. The distribution of the people in provincial districts, counties, boroughs, islands, and on shipboard is given in Tables 11. to V., while in Table VI. details for the various ridings, road and town districts are stated. Two further tables (VII. and VIII.), showing the number of inhabitants in the wards of the different boroughs, and in the four chief cities with their suburbs, are added, besides one (IX.) which is a summary of the dwellings of the people.
