1902. NEW ZEALAND.

DESPATCHES FROM THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR CONVEYING ACKNOWLEDGMENTS OF EXPRESSIONS OF CONDOLENCE ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT McKINLEY.

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.

Banftjrly, Governor. (Message No. 6.) The Governor transmits to the House of Bepresentatives copy of despatches, dated the 30th September and the 11th December, 1901, from the Secretary of State for the Colonies conveying the acknowledgments of the Bresident and people of the United States for the many expressions of condolence at the death of Bresident McKinley. . Government House, Wellington, 4th July, 1902.

(New Zealand, No. 103.) Colonial Office, Downing Street, My Lord,— 30th September, 1901. I have the honour to inform you that your telegram of the 15th instant with reference to the death of Bresident McKinley has been duly communicated through the Foreign Office to the Government of the United States, America. 2. The American Ambassador desires to thank you and the people of New Zealand, on behalf of the people of the United States, for these very sincere and heartfelt expressions of sympathy, which are most grateful to the American people. (New Zealand, No. 132.) Colonial Office, Downing Street, My Lord, — 11th December, 1901. I have the honour to inform you that a note has been received from the United States Charge dAffaires in London, stating that the Bresident and people of the United States have been deeply touched by the many kind expressions of condolence at the death of Bresident McKinley which have been sent through His Majesty's Government from all parts of Australia and New Zealand, carrying with them a most welcome assurance of friendship and goodwill.
