POLICE PROVIDENT FUND: REPORT OF BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION FOR YEAR ENDED 31st MARCH, 1902.
Laid before Parliament in pursuance of Section 25 (Subsection 5) of " The Police Provident Fund Act, 1899."
The Board have to report that during the year ended 31st March last four sergeants, one detective, and six constables were retired under the Act and placed on the Fund. The particulars of those retired are as follows: —
In addition to the above, the widow of the late Constable John Madden has been granted, under section 15 of the Act, £18 per annum, and ss. a week for each of her three children until they attain the age of fourteen years. The death of ex-Constable Thomas Cullinane, who was retired from the Force on the 14th December, 1900, with a life allowance of £63 17s. 6d. per annum, occurred on the Bth May, 1901. Constable S. M. Kelso, who was retired on the 30th September, 1900, returned to duty, under section 20 of the Act, on the Bth October, 1901. There were on the 31st March last one ex-Inspector, seven ex-sergeants, eleven ex-constables, one ex-detective, one widow, and three children on the Fund, their aggregate annual allowance being £1,896 14s. 9d. The balance-sheet and statement of receipts and disbursements, as required by section 25 of the Act, are hereto annexed, from which it will be seen that on the 31st March there was a balance to the credit of the Fund of £14,578 lis. 3d., being an increase of £5,392 18s. lid. on the amount at the corresponding date of the preceding year. This very prosperous condition of the Fund is mainly attributable to many of the members who are eligible to retire not thus far having availed themselves of their right to do so. James McGowan, Wellington, 6th June, 1902. Chairman of the Board of Administration.
