New Zealand. llegistrar.—6. P. Powles. The Registrar, Victoria College Council, to the Hon. the Minister of Education. Sic,— Victoria College, Wellington, 23rd June, 1903. I have the honour, in pursuance of " The Victoria College Act, 1897," to forward the following report from the Council on the working of the Victoria College for the year ended the 31st December, 1902 :— Classes were held in the following subjects : English language and literature, Latin, Greek, French, German, mental science, jurisprudence and constitutional history, law, political economy and history, mathematics, mechanics, chemistry, physics, and geology. The number of students attending classes was 167, and there were thirty-nine exempted students attached to the College. Of these, seventy-nine kept terms. At the examination for the Queen's Scholarships in December last there were 120 candidates from the following Education Districts, viz. : Wellington, 89; Hawke's Bay, 12; Taranaki, 3; Wanganui, 7 ; Nelson, 2 ; Westland, 7. The six scholarships were awarded to scholars from the following schools : Boys' High School (Napier), Ormondville, Terrace School (Wellington), Mount Cook Girls' School (Wellington), and Mount Cook Boys' School (Wellington). Out of the thirty Queen's Scholarships awarded up to this date, seven have been given up and the holders of seven others are attending the Victoria College.
