We recommend that the order made by the previous Commission for Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi Block be annulled, together with the list of owners and shares declared thereunder, and the area and name of the block as therein expressed; that the land be called by its proper name of Te Whaiti Block, containing 71,340 acres, more or less, and that a new order be issued therefor in that name, and in favour of the persons numbered from 1 to 507, inclusive, contained in the list of names we have prepared and attached to the file of Te Whaiti Block, with relative interests as therein set out opposite the name of each person respectively, and that the eastern boundary of the block be amended to follow the straight line shown on the plan running from the peg at Opaheru to the peg on the south-eastern corner of the Maraetahia Block, marked " Te Taumata," or " Ngamokaikai-a-te-Ao," in the plan, the remainder of the boundaries of the block to follow the original boundaries as shown in the plan. This Te Whaiti Block is, in our opinion, one of the most valuable blocks of land contained within the Urewera District Native Reserve, its value being greatly enhanced by the fact that it carries a large area of forest country containing quantities of totara, rimu, kahikatea, matai, maire, and other valuable timbers. The block also contains a very considerable area of good open country, partly level and partly low hills and gently undulating country, and the mountainous south-eastern end of the block, adjoining Maungataniwha, is reported to be gold-bearing country. The seven persons whose names are hereunder set out are the persons whom we have selected— knowing them to be proper owners of the land—from amongst the several lists of persons selected from amongst their number by the members of the various contesting tribes appearing before us as claimants for this land, and proposed by each such tribe to be the members for the Hapu Committee for this block, and agreed to by the respective members of each such tribe present before this Commission sitting at Te Whaiti on the 28th day of March, 1907: — 1. Wharepapa Whatanui. 5. Hohepa Poia. 2. Te Tuhi Pihopa. 6. Wiremu Tamati. 3. Matekuare te Hira. 7. Te Marunui Rawiri. 4. Te Matahaere Whatanui. Gilbert Mair. D. F. G. Barclay. Paratene Ngata. Tawhiuau Block. We are of opinion that the land named Tawhiuau should be made a separate block, and that a separate order should be issued therefor. This land and its list of owners was included by the previous Commission in the order made by them for Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi Block, which order we have recommended be annulled; and, seeing that this land Tawhiuau is a separate piece of land, contained within its own defined boundaries, outside of and not adjoining Te Whaiti Block, it is therefore, we think, advisable that a separate order should be issued for this land, containing 5,064 acres, more or less, within the boundaries shown in Plan No. 6848, and that the land should be named Tawhiuau Block. We have prepared and attached a list of names of the persons of Ngatimanawa Tribe, who were included in the order of Te Whaiti-nui-a-Toi Block by the previous Commission for this Tawhiuau piece, to the file of papers for the said land, numbered from 1 to 86, inclusive, with relative shares as therein shown, totalling 131 shares in all, and we recommend that they be included in the order and declared to be the owners of Tawhiuau Block. The seven persons whose names are hereunder set out are the persons who have been selected from amongst their number by the owners of the land, and proposed by them as the members for the Hapu Committee for this block, and agreed to by all the owners present before this Commission sitting at Te Whaiti on the 28th day of March, 1907: — 1. Harehare Ahuriri. 5. Te Wharehuia Heta. 2. Tβ Marunui Rawiri. 6. Haare Haare. 3. Hahona te Okoro. 7. Peraniko Kapeta. 4. Te Wharepapa Peita. Gilbert Mair. D. F. G. Barclay. Paratene Ngata. Parbkohe Block. Appeal No. 168. —By Waaka Paraone te Ranui and others, claiming the inclusion of the names of seventeen additional persons for that portion of Parekohe Block known as " Te Pohue." There being no objectors, we have prepared and attached a list of their names, numbered from 704 to 720, inclusive, with relative interests as therein set out, to the file of papers for Parekohe Block, and we recommend that their names and shares be added to the order accordingly as for the Te Pohue portion only of the Parekohe Block. Appedl No. 16J f . —By Hakeke Tamaikoha and others, claiming that the name of Wharerata Paiaka (f., a.) be included in the order with an interest of ten shares. To this there are no objectors. We have therefore added the said name, numbered 721, to the list of additional persons attached to the file, and recommend that it be included in the order for the main block for the ten shares asked. Appeals Nos. 169 and 170. —By Hori Aterea and others, claiming the inclusion of the names of six new persons in the order. This has been agreed to without objection. We have therefore
