pohatu and Ruatahuna Block, to the south-eastern corner of lerenui-Ohaua Block, thence by the eastern boundary of lerenui-Ohaua Block to the new boundary-lines marked on the plan by this Commission to enclose that portion of the lerenui-Ohaua Block which has been recommended by this Commission to be added to Maungapohatu Block, thence by the said new boundary-lines to the original boundary of Maungapohatu Block as fixed by previous Commission, and thence following the said original boundaries, as shown on the plan, in a general northerly, easterly, and south-easterly direction to Paharakeke, the point of commencement. The seven persons whose names are hereunder set out are the persons who have been selected by the owners of the land from amongst their number and proposed by them to be the members for the Hapu Committee for this block, and agreed to by all the owners present before this Commission sitting at Whakatane on the Bth day of March, 1907 :■ — 1. Numia te Ruakariata. - r >. Te Tuhi Pihopa. 2. Te Whetu te Paerata. 0. Te Paoro Tangohau. 3. Te Wakaunua Houpepe. 7. Akuhata te Kaha. 4. Rakuraku Eehua. Gilbert Mair. D. F. G. Barclay. Paratene Ngata. Pukepohatu Block (Containing 7,488 acres). For this block no order has been issued by the previous Commission, the title thereto has never been investigated, and there is no appeal in reference to the said land before us to enable us to inquire into the rights thereto and ascertain the rightful owners of the said land. We deem it advisable, however, to draw the attention of the Hon. the Minister of Native Affairs to the fact that the order issued by the previous Commission for the Pukepohatu Block therein mentioned has been issued in error as applying to this land. We are perfectly clear in saying so, as it fcs plainly apparent that the land named " Pukepohatu," awarded by the previous Commission (see pages 319 and 320 of the book of printed orders) to Tamaikoha and his list of names, is contained within the Paraeroa Block as shown in the Plan No. 6871, and the boundaries of the " Pukepohatu " so awarded are set out in the list of names submitted as owners for the said land on the 24th day of February, 1899, the said boundaries as there set out conclusively proving that the land referred to is that portion of the Paraeroa Block which is named ' PukeP ° have therefore considered it advisable to draw the attention of the Hon. the Minister of Native Affairs to the fact that these two separate pieces of land are at present known by this one name "Pukepohatu," and that the order of the previous Commission for Pukepohatu Block has been issued in error for an area of 7,488 acres which does not form any part of the portion of the Paraeroa Block intended by that Commission to be awarded to the iorty-four persons declared by the said Commission to be the owners under the name of Pukepohatu Block.

Seeing that a number of new boundaries, or amendments of existing boundaries, have been recommended to be made, as set out in the foregoing reports, in several of the blocks of land within the Urewera District Native Reserve, we have marked the said new or amended boundaries upon the plans of the several blocks affected thereby, and have had the areas approximately calculated and entered thereon by an officer of the Survey Department, and we recommend that the areas of the said blocks be amended accordingly to agree with the new areas so entered upon the plans of each such block respectively, until the true area of each such block shall have been definitely ascertained and fixed by the Survey Department. The following schedule sets forth the names of the several blocks of land referred to, and their original areas, also the additional areas which have been recommended to be added to certain of such blocks, and the areas of the portions which have teen recommended to be deducted from others of them respectively : — Hikurangi-Horomanga Block, original area ... ... ■•■ 56 >°0° Deducted and added to Tawhiuau Block ... ... ... • -• 1.00l Balance of Hikurangi-Horomanga Block now remaining 54,319 lerenui-Ohaua Block, original area ... ■■• ••• ••■ 5 >54° Deducted and added to Maungapohatu Block ... ... ■■■ -1,011 Balance of lerenui-Ohaua Block now remaining ... 4,529 Maungapohatu Block, original area, 53,696 acres; area added from lerenui-Ohaua Block, 1,011 acres ... ■■■ 54,707 Deducted and named Manuoha Block, 19,672 acres; deducted and included in Paharakeke Block, 6,573 acres ... ... ■■■ 26,245 Balance of Maungapohatu Block now remaining ... -28,462
