towards cutting drains through the swamp, as it contains undoubtedly the best land on the property. At present there are twenty-seven steers running in this swamp, which were bought at £2 a head; there are also two three-year-old steers and two cows, all looking in first-rate condition. Owing to the exceptionally dry season before mentioned, the results have not been so good all round as anticipated, but under ordinary circumstances I am of opinion that with very little expenditure this property could be made self-supporting in bacon, potatoes, milk, and mutton. I have the honour to forward herewith a report of analyses made in my laboratory under the Food Adulteration Prevention Acts, during the year ending 31st March, 1908. The number of analyses made in this period was twenty, the particulars of which are given on the accompanying sheets. During the year I have received no samples of alcohol and only three samples of milk. 'Some of the potable waters submitted were unsatisfactory, and deserve further attention at regular intervals.
