Carpentering. —The work performed in this branch of the industries undertaken at the school is very creditable. The boys engaged in the workshop display aptitude, and the work done by them on the large buildings that have recently been erected reflects credit on the instructor in charge of them. It may be mentioned that since this industry has been established at the school a number of boys have been turned out good workmen, and they are at present commanding full pay as competent artisans. Bootmaking. — ln this department also satisfactory work is being performed by the inmates m making, repairing, Arc. Farm-work. —A good training in ordinary farm-work is undertaken and well performed. In addition, the boys are taught dairying, the handling and care of horses, pig-raising, &c, and no effort seems to be spared to impart to the inmates a good working-knowledge in this industry, which must prove of benefit to such of them as are licensed out to farmers. Gardening. —ln this connection good work is also done by the boys. They are well instructed. and have the satisfaction of seeing each year a splendid return of produce for their Labour. In addition to these trades the boys perform al! the necessary work on the buildings, such as painting, plumbing, and general repairs, as well as the domestic work of the institution, in a manner entirely satisfactory. Management. — The management of the school is thoroughly performed by the Manager and Matron (Mr. and .Mis. Arohey)j and leave nothing to be desired, as both these officers possess the necessary qualifications for the successful management of such an institution as Burnham. The staff ably assists Mr. and Mrs. Archey in carrying <>nt 'lie details of management, and we desin in express approval of the work performed by them. We have much pleasure in reporting that the conditions as at present existing at tin; insti tiition are very satisfactory. We have. &c., Fred. Board, Emilt J. Guise, The Hon. the Minister of Education. Official Visitors.
