EDUCATION: SCHOOL BUILDINGS: PAYMENTS TO EDUCATION BOARDS FOR MAINTENANCE AND REBUILDING OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND FOR REBUILDING SCHOOL BUILDINGS DESTROYED BY FIRE.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 3rd August, 1910. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing (1) the distribution of the votes for the maintenance, rebuilding) and renewal of school buildings and residences, us proposed by the Education Committee in Table A of 1.-13, 1903, and as tinally adopted, with any subsequent amendments thereof : (2) the amounts paid yearly under each heading to the various Boards up to the .'ilst March, 1910 ; ('i) the amounts expended out of the votes by the various Boards for each of the above purposes, and the condition of the funds of each Board as at the 31st March, 1910 ; and (4) also, for each Board and for each year, the value of the buildings destroyed by lire, and the amounts paid by eaoh Board and the Education Department for replaoing the same." — (Mr. Ai.i.rvi

Distribution of Ordinary Votes for Maintenance and Rebuilding of School Buildings according to the Scheme proposed by the Select Committee on Education (1.-13, 1903). The distribution hasjjbeen made each year, except for 1909, on the basis of the Committee's report — i.e., as per Table A, modified as indicated in the supplementary report printed in the parliamentary paper referred to above. For 1909 the distribution was made on the following basis, viz.,— Schools, — (a.) Maintenance, wood, at 2J per cent. (b.) Maintenance, brick and stone, at 1J per cent. Rebuilding and renewals (c), (d), (c), (/), — No payment was made on this account. Residences, — (g.) Maintenance, at 2£ per cent. Education Department, Wellington, 30th August, 1910. G. Hogben.
