the population of those districts at the census of 1906, thus adding 22,133 to the foregoing figures, produces a total of 99,229. But, as it is very well known that several of theTsuburban||districts have extended in a manner altogether beyond what can be accounted for by natural increase, the Town of Auckland has probably now considerably over one hundred thousand souls. This improvement is only maintained by effecting reduction in the death-rate, and the due effect upon the population is almost neutralized by the continued fall in the birth-rate. Infant Mortality.
