LABOUR BILLS COMMITTEE (REPORTS OF THE). (Mr. ARNOLD, Chairman.)

ORDERS OP REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 7th Day of July, 1910. Ordered, " That a Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to whom shall be referred Bills more particularly referring to labour; three to be a quorum: the Committee to consist of Mr. Arnold, Mr. Bollard, Mr. Fraser, Mr. Glover, Mr. Hardy, Mr. Luke, Mr. McLaren, Mr. Poole, Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, and the mover."—(Hon. Mr. Millar.) Thursday, the 11th Day of August, 1910. Ordered, " That the following members be added to the Labour Bills Committee during the consideration of the Tramways Bill—viz., Mr. Nosworthy and Mr. T. E. Taylor."—(Hon. Mr. Millar.)

Inspection op Machineby Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendment as shown on the copy attached hereto. 20th October 1910. J F. Arnold, Chairman. Factories Act Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has taken evidence thereon and carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy attached hereto. (Vide also 1.-9c.) J F Arnold, Chairman. 2nd November, 1910. No. 508. —Petition of Louis Lock and 53 Others. Petitioners pray that provision be made for laundrymen to work at their trade at least fifty-four hours during the week, and to allow washing to be received up to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 p.m. on other tiays , and also that the wages and overtime book be kept in the Chinese language. I am directed to report that, as the subject-matter of this petition is dealt with in the Factories Act Amendment Bill, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd November, 1910.
