No. 1. extract from the thirty - fourth annual report of the minister of education. Number of Schools. At the end of the year 1909 there were ninety-four Native village schools in operation. During the \r;ir 1910 three new schools were opened —viz., Rakaunui, Kawhia ; Port Waikato, near the mouth of the Waikato River; and Waimiha, King-country : and the schools at Pamoana, Wanganui River; ;ind Tβ Kopua, Maniapoto country, were reopened. At the 31st December. 1910, there were, in addition to public schools giving instruction to Maori children, 114 schools in operation in New Zealand for the primary purpose of giving instruction to the Maori— Native village schools .. . . .. . . .. .. . . !>!)
