DEPARTMENT OF IMMIGRATION (ANNUAL REPORT OF).

Herewith I have the honour to submit the annual report upon the immigration which has taken place into New Zealand from the United Kingdom during the year 1912-13. I have, &c, J. EEPOET. The total number of arrivals in New Zealand from the United Kingdom during the year ended 31st March, 1913, was 14,169 persons, consisting of 11,355 adults and 2,814 children. Out of the total number of persons arriving—namely, 14,169 persons—3,92B were assisted by the Government. The capital brought into the Dominion by the assisted immigrants themselves applying to the High Commissioner in London during the year, as declared, amounted to £32,006. In cases where immigrants are nominated from New Zealand no declared capital is required.
During the year thirty-eight steamers brought out assisted immigrants (a rough average of three steamers per month) as follows :—
