The balance at the end of the year, £31,725, consists of a balance on the Scholarships Account of £26,049, and a balance on the General Account of £5,676. The amount in hand for general purposes was therefore £5,676, the only liability of importance against which is an amount of £1,971 due to English examiners for the degree examinations of November, 1912. The net balance on the General Account has therefore increased from £2,536 in 1911 to £3,705, a net increase of £1,169. Degrees conferred and Scholarships awarded. At its annual meeting in January of the present year the Senate conferred degrees and awarded scholarships as set out in the table below. For the sake of clearness no notice has been taken of similar degrees awarded on the results of a single examination —as, for instance, Master and Honours, or the double degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
