Per Diem. s. d. Tropical pay — For all Stoker rating* ami Seamen under training in the stokehold, actually employed and doing duty when steam is up in the ship or in a steamboat within the tropics. Not to be paid for any time during which the fires are only banked or when steam is only u:ed for auxiliary purpose-, suoh as electric lighting or condensing. Deferred Pay. 3. The following conditions shall govern " deferred pay " :— (a.) The account of each officer or man in receipt of deferred pay will be credited with the amount deferred and with the interest thereon ; the interest— (i.) To be allowed at the rate of 3J per cent; (ii.) To be added to each individual's account annually on 30th June ; (iii.) To be computed annually on the amount standing to credit of the individual at the end of the previous financia year. (b.) On resignation or retirement of any officer entitled to deferred pay, the actuarial equivalent of accumulated amount of his contributions will be granted to him; the individual concerned to have the option of receiving this actuarial equivalent— (i.) In the form of an annuity for life ; (ii.) Half in the form of an annuity and half in the form of a cash payment ; (iii.) In other form, if desired, in special circumstances, to be decided by the Naval Authority. (c.) On the discharge of any rating the actuarial equivalent of accumulated amount of his contributions will be granted to him as follows :— (i.)- Seven years' service or less, in the form of an annuity for life : (ii.) Over seven years' service and under fourteen years, if re-engaged for second period —As above, or half in the form of an annuity and half in the form of cash payment; (iii.) Over fourteen years' service, if re-engaged for third per od—Either of the above or, by permission of the Naval Authority, cash payment in full. (d.) In the case of death of an individual whilst in the service, the full amount of accumulated deferred pay will be payable to his estate. (c.) Persons dismissed from the Naval Service for misconduct (as defined in the Naval Regulations) will forfeit all claim to deferred pay : Provided, however, in the case of men, that deferred pay for each completed term of engagement or re-engagement shiiil not be subject to forfeiture. (_/.) Contributions by the Dominion towards pension rights of officers and men lent from Royal Navy shall be deducted from amounts credited to such officers and men on account of deferred pay, and in case of such officers and men the accumulated balance (if any) shall be payable to them as a cash payment on their return to the Royal Navy. (g.) Men entered or re-engaged shall not be entitled on discharge to draw deferred pay until the expiration of the period of time for which they engaged or re-engaged to serve :
