FIRE BRIGADES OF THE DOMINION (REPORT ON THE), BY THE INSPECTOR OF FIRE BRIGADES, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30th JUNE, 1916.

The Inspector of Fire Brigades to the Hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs. Sir, — Office of Inspector of Fire Brigades, Wellington, 7th July, 1916. Herewith I have the honour to lay before you my eighth annual report for the year ended the 30th June, 1916, relative to the working of the Fire Brigades Act, and including matters in connection therewith. During the past year Maori Hill ceased to be an independent fire district, that borough having amalgamated with the City of Dunedin, and the proclaimed fire districts now are—Auckland, Christehurch, Dannevirke, Dunedin, Feilding, Gisborne, Greymouth, Hamilton, Hastings, Hawera, llokitika, Lawrence, Masterton, Milton, New Plymouth, Oamaru, Ohakune. Palmerston North, Petone, Rotorua, Tauranga, Timaru, Whangarei, and Woolston. I have officially inspected the twenty-nine brigades, with their stations and equipment, at present working under the control of Fire Boards, as follows : — Auckland—Bth and 9th November, 1915; 7th and 9th May, 1916. Christehurch—24th November, 1915; 23rd May, 1916, Dannevirke—llth February, 1916. Dunedin—2sth and 27th September, 1915; 28th March, 1916. Maori Hill—24th September, 1915; 27th March, 1916.
