Spectal Report. I have the honour to report that at a meeting of the Native. Affairs Committee held this morning, the following resolution was carried unanimously :— " That the Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the excellent services rendered to the Committee by the Clerk (Mr. H. W. Harris) ; that this resolution be recorded in the minutes and reported to the House." 4th August, 1916. [Translation.] Ripoata Motuhake. Kei te whai honore ahau kite ripoata i te huihuinga o te Komiti mo nga mea Maori i te ata nei, paahitia ana tenei motini o whai ake nei, a kaore rawa, hoki he reo whakahe :— " E hiahia ana tenei Komiti kia tuhituhia a ratou kupu mihi mo te pai rawa o te mahi a te Karaka (H. W. Harihi) i nga mahi a te Komiti ; a kia tuhituhia tenei motini ki runga ki nga meneti a te Komiti a kia ripoatatia atu kite. Wliare." 4 o Akuhata, 191.6.

No. 251 (1916).—Petition of Hema Henare and 33 Othors. Praying that a clause in the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Bill, re Hokio Stream and Horowhenua Lake, be not allowed to proceed. Praying for an inquiry re succession to interest, of Wiremu Ta.iniha.na (deceased) in Whangape Lot 65b 2c. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of the Committee, this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 4th August, 1916.
