No. 5. —Petition of Dunedin Chamber of Commerce and Otago Expansion League. Prating that a Commission be appointed to inquire into the tenure of land in the pastoral districts of Otago. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be : referred to the Government, for favourable consideration. 6th December, 1918. No. LO3. —Petition of Matthkw Henry, of Waerenga, Southland. Praying for compensation for loss incurred through alleged wrongful valuation of property in the Ballachraggan Settlement. 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 6th December, 1918, • No. 54.—Petition of the Hokianga County Council. Praying for legislation so that members of the Native race may be rated. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and desires to draw attention to the report of the Minister of Internal Affairs in the annual departmental report for the year ended 31st March, 1918 (11.-22). The Committee further recommends that the suggestions contained in the report referred to with regard to collection of rates from the Native race be acted upon, and legislation be introduced as soon as possible to give effect to such suggestions. 6th December, 1918. Wo. 17, Session I.—Petition of the Northern Wairoa Agricultural and Pastoral Association and nine similar Petitions (as per Schedule attached). Praying that a new land district be formed, to be called the Northland Land District, and comprising the whole of the North Auckland Peninsula. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends the petition to the favourable consideration of the Government, and that the matter be proceeded with with all possible expedition. 6th December, 1918.
