ensuring its efficient working, it is not desirable to add unduly to the number of members. It is accordingly suggested that the most convenient plan might be for each of the Dominion Governments to invite one of the existing scientific members of the Committee to represent that Dominion, and in addition that the Government Mycologist of the Dominion (if one has been appointed), or some officer performing similar duties, should be nominated as an ex officio member of the Committee. It will be recollected that a somewhat similar plan was adopted in the case of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology. 3. I should be glad to learn whether this suggestion commends itself to your Government, and, if so, which of the members of the Committee they would wish to represent them. I have, &c, MILNER. On and after the 31st July the British Signal-manual, which has hitherto been used in the examination, in signalling, of candidates for certificates of competency as master or mate, will be abandoned, and the Allied Signal-manual will be substituted for use in the examination.
