SECTION 2.—NOTIFIABLE DISEASES. Scarlet Fever. The course of scarlet fever in New Zealand during the last five years is briefly shown in the tables below. The notifications for 1926 reveal a considerable increase as compared with the previous four years, though the death-rate remains low.

Diphtheria. Diphtheria in New Zealand, 1922-26.
The death-rate, though remarkably low, shows an increasing tendency. Although little preventive inoculation of children has been carried out in New Zealand in comparison with what has been done in certain American States, the death-rate from this disease has greatly reduced in the last few years. Preventive inoculation is now carried out in districts which show an increased incidence of this disease. Enteric Fever. The position as regards this disease for the period 1922-26 is shown in the table below
