B.—l [PT. I .

PUBLIC ACCOUNTS, 1926-192 7.

ABSTRACT of the EMERGENCY EXPENDITURE ACCOUNT for the FINANCIAL YEAR ended 31st March, 1927.

R. E. Hayes, , Secretary to the Treasury. A. D. Park, F.1.A.N.Z., Accountant to the Treasury. The Treasury, Wellington, sth July, 1927. In compliance with subsection (3) of section 59 of the Public Revenues Act, 1926, I have to submit the following report on the above account:— In October last the Hon. the Minister of Finance represented to the Audit Office that, in view of the serious position arising through the continuance of unemployment, it was proposed to provide for relief out of the Consolidated Fund in terms of section 59 of the Public Revenues Act, 1926. As it appeared to the Controller and Auditor-General that the matter of unemployment was one affecting the public interests within the meaning of that section, the Audit Office concurred in this proposal. The relief was granted by means of various public works specially approved by the Hon. the Minister of Finance, and the expenditure requires to be ratified and voted by Parliament pursuant to subsection (4) of the above Act. The above abstract correctly sets out the amounts charged and credited to the Emergency Expenditure Account during the year ended on 31st March, 1927. G. F. C. Campbell, Controller and Auditor-General. Audit Office, 6th July, 1927.
