Praying that the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill be not passed ; that the free, compulsory, and secular character of the present system be strictly maintained ; and that your petitioners mav be heard in opposition to the Bill. I am directed to report that, as the Bill has been dealt with by the House, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 10th October, 1928.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to record its hearty appreciation of the able and tactful manner in which the Chairman, Mr. Hudson, has controlled the business of the Committee during the session. It further desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and reported to the House. T. K. Stdey, 10th October, 1928. Member of the Committee.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee desires to record its satisfaction at the efficiency and coutesy shown by the Clerk, Mr. Pasley, in the discharge of his various duties during the session, and trusts that the necessary steps will be taken to ensure his return to the Committee next year ; and it also desires that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. 10th October, 1928.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Education Committee, consisting of eleven members, has held ten meetings during the session, with an average attendance of eight members. The Music-teachers Registration Bill and the New Zealand University Amendment Bill were fully considered and reported to the House. Sixty-five petitions, the majority of them dealing with the adjustment of salaries of women teachers, were also considered and reported on. 10th October, 1928. R. S. Hudson, Chairman.
