I i ! * The actual increase in the number of centres is only seven, the remaining five relating to technical schools giving instruction to pupils from private schools. The total number of primary schools receiving instruction in elementary agriculture and elementary science in each district was as follows, the figures for the previous year being shown in brackets : Auckland, 483 (471); Taranaki, 162 (168); Wanganui, 189 (190); Hawke's Bay, 168 (166); Wellington, 204 (217) ; Nelson, 120 (116); Canterbury, 395 (298); Otago, 208 (211); Southland, 147 (142): total, 2,076 (1,979). The total number of pupils involved was 53,759 (48,622).
