No. 23/1931. —Petition of Riiiitoto Mataia and 83 Others, of Paeroa. Praying for payment of mineral-rights revenue derived from goldfield lands owned by them between Te Aroha and Moehau. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 18th October, 1935.

Praying for —(a) Payment to him of the sum of £34, being the amount of an allegedly unjust reduction in his salary ; (b) reimbursement of the sum of £78 lis. 3d., being costs of his defence of wrongful charge made against him ; (c) compensation for injury to character and reputation occasioned by such wrongful charge ; (d) such further or other relief as may seem just. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration as regards parts (6), (c), and (d) of the prayer of the petition, and for favourable consideration regarding part (a) thereof. 22nd October, 1935.
