No. 307/1936,—Petition of P. H. W. Traill and 137 Others, of Stewart Island. Praying for a license in respect of an accommodation-house at Half-moon Bay, Stewart Island. I am directed to report that, as a question of policy is involved, in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 20th October, 1937.
No. 3. —Petition of C. E. Milligan, of Auckland. Praying for amendment of the Stamp Duties Act, 1923. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 20th October, 1937.
No. 15. —Petition of Esther Saunders and Another, of Auckland. Praying for refund of conveyance duty. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 22nd October, 1937.
No. 11,—-Petition of A. F. Shanks, of Waimate. Praying for compensation for loss of license to operate a passenger-carrying service under the provisions of the Transport Licensing Act, 1931. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration, with a view to the payment of a sum of money equivalent to that which the petitioner paid for the service. 22nd October, 1937.
No. 4. —Petition of Amy Platt, of Wellington. Praying that she be granted a gratuity in consideration of her late husband's services with the Public Works Department and Dominion Laboratory. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, with a view to the petitioner receiving a gratuity of not less than £50 owing to her late husband's long and faithful service to the State. 2nd November, 1937.
No. 40.—Petition of H. Trewby, of Wellington. Praying for the abandonment of the tourist industry, and its replacement by efforts to improve the quality of the primary produce of New Zealand. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd November, 1937.
No. 24. —Petition of J. P. B. Smith and 266 Others (Taxi-drivers of the City of Auckland). Praying for the appointment of a person experienced in the handling of taxi systems as the transportlicensing authority for the Auckland Metropolitan Area, or, in the event of a corporation being appointed, that adequate representation of local bodies adjacent to the city area be provided for. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 2nd November, 1937.
