In addition to these successes, 7 passed for Diploma of Honours, 3,993 candidates passed sections of the examinations for degrees or for admission to professions; 254 gained certificates of proficiency. There were 213 candidates (including bursary candidates) for the Entrance Scholarship Examination. 38* gaining scholarships, 53f others passing the examination with credit, and 46 qualifying for matriculation. The number of candidates for the University Entrance examination was 4,860, of whom 2,357 passed the examination. * Five declined scholarships, one was not a competitor, and one was awarded a Taranaki Scholarship. t One of these was awarded a Taranaki Scholarship.
